Launch of ‘Greater Dublin’s Greater than Ever’

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Brendan Carr recently launched the Greater Dublin’s Greater Than Ever #GDGTE initiative in Dublin’s Mansion House.

A short promotional video and presentation brochure, produced by the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, aims to market Dublin as a great place to set up and do business, and highlights what the Greater Dublin Region has to offer to inward investor businesses under a number of headings.  Minister of State, Eoghan Murphy TD was guest speaker at the launch.

The video includes contributions from the Lord Mayor of Dublin; Minister of State Eoghan Murphy; the Dublin Commissioner for Startups, Niamh Bushnell; Ruth Curran, Managing Partner of MERC Partners Executive Search; Marie Hunt, Head of Research at CBRE; President of DIT, Professor Brian Norton;  Paul O’Kane, Chief Communications Officer, Dublin Airport; Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney; and South Dublin Chamber of Commerce CEO, Peter Byrne to illustrate the case.  The accompanying brochure presents key facts relating to the attractiveness of Dublin for investment, covering six key areas of financial services and regulation; infrastructure; access; skills and workforce; education and research; and as a location for start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Brendan Carr said: “For those companies that need to maintain an EU base post-Brexit, Dublin offers a great solution. Post-Brexit, Dublin will be the only English-speaking capital remaining in the EU. We have a highly-educated, skilled and enthusiastic workforce that has already attracted many of the world’s top companies to set-up here.

“In addition to this we are investing in the infrastructure that will be needed to support companies looking to establish a base in Dublin. The Dublin City Development Plan (2016-2022) will see many more houses, apartments, hotels and offices coming on stream, in addition to the significant development that is already underway.”

Minister for Financial Services Eoghan Murphy said of the project: “I welcome the Lord Mayor’s initiative to shine a light on the strengths and attractions of the greater Dublin region at such a critical time for Ireland.  As a major European Financial Services centre, Dublin is home to 250 global financial institutions hosting half of the world’s top 50 banks and half of the top 20 insurance companies.

“Our Law, Labour and Location are highly compatible in support of an effective and efficient transition between jurisdictions. In my capacity as Minister for Financial Services I look forward to continue working with organisations such as the British Irish Chamber of Commerce to promote our international financial services offering.”

The ‘Greater Dublin is Greater than Ever’ initiative  been supported by a number of key stakeholders in the Greater Dublin Region including CBRE, MERC Partners, Dublin Town and DIT.  President of DIT, Professor Brian Norton praised the Lord Mayor’s initiative and complimented the British Irish Chamber on the video and brochure which he said were very timely.  Describing the Dublin region as an eco-system for education, he pointed out that Ireland is in the top 10 countries worldwide for producing graduates in science and engineering.

”There is also a strong research base, producing world-leading publications.  It is extremely important that we share this message widely.”
